Actress Maggie Jones, who played Blanche Hunt in Coronation Street, has died age 75. 
The actress was written out of Corrie in October to undergo emergency surgery, but a spokesperson had said her condition was improving and she had been expected to return to the soap.
Jones first appeared on the show 35 years ago but became a regular cast member in 1999.
William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, her on-screen son-in-law, played tribute to the star: "Maggie was a big part of the Barlow family and a brilliant actress. She was a tower of strength, physically frail but mentally strong as an ox and sharp as someone half her age.
"She had an amazing dry wit and was as funny if not funnier than Blanche. We were great cross word partners, we sat through Tracy’s trial scenes doing the cross word together."

It is very sad to hear about Maggie\’s death. Although I havent watched Corrie 4a while now, but will miss such a personality who\’s presence left a impact on screen, and will be greatly missed by the audience. Nooooo! Without Blanche Ken and Derdrie\’s family has lost its lynchpin and hence will become a less intriguing element of the show. They need to now work Peter more into their family and potentially get Tracy out of prison on early parole or something…I mean this aint Texas and she did kill her ex under mysterious circumstances.Though back to Ms. Jones, I for one am deeply saddened by her passing and will miss her greatly.

It would have been nice to express this actress as possibly her first name or Miss / Mrs. As a common mark of respect, however it possibly shows ignorance to the reporting person, yep a criminal but not such a lady! Farwell lady, you were sound. From a Northerner!

I am so, so sad that I won\’t be able to laugh at Blanche\’s fantastic one-liners anymore but if she was suffering with her illness I am pleased she is now \’up there\’ and I always have my memories of a lovely, talented lady. God bless.
My 12 year old daughter Maggie-Suzanne told me of the sad news earlier today upon getting up and ready for school, we are avid Corrie fans! Maggie Jones will be sadly missed from our screens as she was always a ray of light and dry wit and gave some of the funniest one-liners going! God bless Blanche! X
