It had to happen really. Little Britain’s Matt Lucas has become the latest star to capitalise on the massive interest in Britain’s Got Talent’s Susan Boyle, by impersonating her for Heat magazine. I turned the page of The Mirror, caught the picture and laughed my a**e off. Funniest thing he’s done for ages if you ask me…
However I’m convinced that years from now, we’ll look back on the entire Susan Boyle phenomenon and ask ourselves, how did that happen?
It’s not the first time people have happily clambered on the wave of a phenomenon and ridden it for all its worth. I’ve been there: I wore tight zip-leg stonewashed jeans in the 80s; I thought about nicking a VW badge off a car; I bought my sister a Cabbage Patch Doll; I answered my phone with ‘waaasssssssup!’ in the early noughties. But this Susan Boyle thing has totally passed me by. I’m watching it all with both amazement and bemusement.
Her Britain’s Got Talent audition (I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Misèrables) is now one of YouTube’s most popular videos ever. She has been featured on American news networks (no mean feat as our cousins over the sea rarely report on anything or anyone that doesn’t directly affect them, aside from conflicts in the Middle East); US talkshow host Jay Leno has paid tribute to her by donning a wig and performing on his show; her celebrity fans include Demi Moore, her husband Ashton Kutcher and Jon Bon Jovi; she’s been on Larry King Live and Oprah and an American fan has even made a Susan Boyle doll for sale… I kid you not.
Robbie Williams tried to crack America for years with no luck. But a 48-year-old virgin goes on a British talent show and easily trumps him. She is a bona fide global phenomenon. For now. Then again, so were A Flock of Seagulls and l never remember that I’ve forgotten them until E-Friends repeats the flashback episode with Chandler sporting a Flock of Seagulls haircut (The One With All The Thanksgivings).
What next for Susan Boyle? Maybe she’ll do us all a favour and stand for Parliament.

Today I am mostly lovin’ – Question Time. No less than 3.8 million viewers tuned in between 10.40pm and 11.40pm last Thursday to watch the audience vent their anger over the issue of expenses and our greedy, grasping, grubby MPs. It was splendid viewing – loved watching Labour’s Margaret Beckett, Tory Theresa May and the Lib Dems’ Sir Menzies Cambell squirm. Give ’em hell if you’re in the audience this Thursday. As Citizen Smith memorably proclaimed: "Power to the people!"
Today I am mostly hatin’ – Those Vodaphone ‘If I Ruled The World’ adverts are doing my head in.

Dear Matt Lucas – shame you cannot discern between impersonation and ridicule, the latter for your own benefit. Indeed, you are contravening a civil rights issue of not upholding an individual\’s right not to be ridiculed. Imagine same voice, similar "non-glam" looks but someone who is disabled, has Downs etc., etc,..A very cheap comedy platform to take when perhaps you could devote time to parody yourself and others with questionable better lookability than those of whom you frankly prostitute for your own benefit. I think it\’s a tad sad that Matt Lucas has to parody an easy target such as Susan Boyle…are there not bigger fish to fry? Strange that someone would probably get sued for impersonating him – using his catch phrases – without permission. But we\’re all fair game – quite a compliment for the gentle Catholic lady. Americans love the underdog story – and self-depricating English characters like David Niven & Hugh Grant – have you seen him on Top Gear on YouTube – very funny chap. The Us doesn\’t get the arrogant act of Robbie – I think the cocky style is unlikeable to most folk. There\’s hope for the world with Susan Boyle – but I wouldn\’t wish parliament on her – the squeaky clean get mocked – look at Ann Widdicomb – there\’s no winning in that shooting gallery. I do like the Greek act though. Someone swiped my VW badge – it was a large camper van one – who\’d wear that I don\’t know – a very large person – and I always admired those girls in the stonewashed jeans – haircuts were good then too – see you at the Eighties night.

Susan Boyle reached the heights she has because she is unassuming, and that is how she has lived her life, a quiet person, a church warden, with the voice of an angel. Why not let Susan enjoy her moment in the sun. There are so many jealous people in the world.; Take Lily Allen (please!!!!), that trollop had to get her twopence in. Everyone… The only reason Susan Boyle is as popular as she is is because you expected her to be rubbish because, hate to say it, but she wasn\’t very nice to look at and she was a bit simple, then she comes out and it turns out that she has a HALF DECENT voice. I like susan but feel that everyone thinks there is only her in this competition, take a look at the people that are through so far and they are all there for a reson because of a talent, i personally dont want her to win and i find it hard to choose cause i like two acts diversity and flawless so would be more than happy to see either of them win. I do however feel even though he is not through yet the young lad that dances like George Sampson could be the dark horse to this competition if he go\’s through which i think he will, i try not to listen too much to the bookies bettings cause lets face it the bookies were favourite for Gareth Gates to win and Will Young won so personally anything could happen on that final night.

I love things like this.. people start chipping in as if they\’re some sort of vocal expert. There were plenty of pros who said she had a top quality if not fully trained. So I\’m sure with a bit of time she will be a highly rated singer. It really does bother me that people are taking the mick out of a pleasent if not slightly eccentric lady. I\’m sure it must be very difficult for her to be in the public gaze like this. It does me proud to see the \’great\’ British public sticking the boot in. If she jumps of a bridge from the stress will msn put it under news or entertainment?

At least the vodafone ads don\’t appear every ten minutes- britains most unfavourite bed specialist has been doing in my head for months- I almost stopped watching itv 3 because of 3 times per ad break with a wailing singer- they changed their tune back to the old one , then popped up and oldie which goes flat in the middle- I have no idea about the beds but musically they are painfully nobody\’s favourite anything.

I agree with Hannah Nijsten the picture is not funny. I watch Little Britain but seeing Matt Lucas can be that cruel I don\’t think I will bother to watch it again. Susan said she was doing this to make her mum proud, to lose someone that close hurts like hell. She lives on her own now as she said with her cats. I think that Susan is a lot braver than most of us. I also think that the people who are bad mouthing her all the time are gutless and should find thensleves another hobby. Well personally, and lets face it we are entitled to our personal opinion, I had a little snigger. If you put yourself out there into the limelight you have to expect some ribbing. What saddens me the most though is this is a very vulnerable lady who clearly has some mental health problems and no social skills. Some of her facial and body movements are inappropriate such as the thing she does with her tongue and the hip action she often does but she is unaware of this – fame and fortune are not what she needs and as her stint in the Priory just after the BGT fianls clearly shows she is not emotionally capable of handling it.
Plus lets face it – she\’s not actually that good – its only because of how she comes across and how she looks that she got anywhere – the singer with the idiot (badly) arranging flowers sang better but because she looks \’normal\’ she didn\’t get anywhere.
